More new work

The crane is a study for a larger painting. The tank is an experiment I started this morning. When the tunnel is finished, it will be one in a series of four.

Small Works show

I have several pieces in the Small Works show at Artzone 461 Gallery. The show consists of work that is 20" or smaller in any dimension and should be quite fun. New year, new work

One of the best ways to keep warm in my very cold studio is to stretch canvas. Since it's been quite wintery here lately, I have built up a large supply of new canvases. I find blank canvas irresistible, so these won't sit around very long, but it's nice to be able to start so much new work at the start of the new year.

The top three paintings are sourced from Flip videos I shot in Texas and California. The tunnel is part of a series. Bottom two are older work getting closer to completion.

Busy

Lots of new work in progress, all from trips to or through the Sierras. Top to bottom: Whitney Portal, Hwy 395 somewhere north of Bishop, corn, near Ubehebe crater in Death Valley, and Mono Lake (Epson streaks once again found their way into a painting). All but the Death Valley painting come from Flip video footage.

Prints

I took a drypoint and monoprint workshop yesterday with Zach Gilmour. It was my first experience with this type of printmaking, and I had so much fun. The process involved drawing on plexi plates with sharp objects, inking the plates and printing them. The three middle images are printed from the same plate with variations in the amount and color of ink.

Yosemite Landscape

This painting is based on an image I shot at sunset with a flip video camera aimed through a set of binoculars at the Tunnel View stop in Yosemite. Oil on canvas. 28"x46".
